Art Nouveau style started to appear on Bohemian porcelain before 1900 in connection with the Exposition Universelle in Paris, and with greater frequency after the fair. Ceramics responded to the advent of the new style more quickly than porcelain. The more restrained Viennese geometric style, Secession, quickly emerged in porcelain. However, the porcelain factories in Loket and Carlsbad–Fischern (Knoll) often opted for forms with undulating lines, accented with low foliated relief and decoration.
